About Us


Prof. Dr. Mathias Kraus

Mathias Kraus (born 1989) studied mathematics in the Bachelor’s program and computer science in the Master’s program at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) from 2010 to 2016. After completing his Master’s degree, he worked as a research assistant at the University of Freiburg in 2017 and as a PhD student at ETH Zurich from 2018 to 2020, where he successfully completed his PhD on “Deep Learning in Business Analytics: Methods and Applications” in October 2020. In the meantime, he spent a research stay at the University of Texas at Austin. Since February 2021, Mathias Kraus holds the junior professorship for Data Analytics at the Institute of Information Systems at FAU.


Hanna Debus

Hanna Debus holds a master’s degree in Biomedical Technologies from the University of Tuebingen. In her master’s thesis, Hanna studied the handling of complaints in health-related technology. Since 2021, she started working for Siemens Healthineers and as an external doctoral candidate in the group of Prof. Kraus. In her research, Hanna studies prediction models for customer satisfaction. Here, she makes use of state-of-the-art machine learning models to estimate the impact of product changes on customer feedback and service activities.


Nicolas Webersinke

Nicolas Webersinke holds two masters’ degrees in both Finance, Auditing, Controlling, Taxation, as well as in International Information Systems. Since 2018, he has been a doctoral candidate at the Chair of Finance and Banking and also joined the the group of Prof. Kraus in 2021. In his research, Nicolas focuses on natural language processing for sustainable finance, where he develops and further improves the ClimateBert neural network to analyse corporate climate disclosures. In his free time, Nicolas likes to go skiing, hiking, and enjoying the sun in nice outdoor cafes.


Tobias Schimanski

Tobias Schimanski currently studies International Information Systems at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg with a focus on data analysis, applied statistics, and finance. In his work at the group, Tobias experiments with innovative sampling strategies to further improve the ClimateBert neural network. He also currently works on his master’s thesis in which he extends the domain of ClimateBert to ESG.
